Nestled amidst the fertile plains of Punjab, lies a picturesque village that seems to have frozen in time. With its rustic charm, vibrant culture, and warm-hearted people, this village offers a glimpse into the essence of rural life in Punjab. Recently, I had the opportunity to visit this enchanting village, and every aspect of village life left me captivated.

 

As I entered the village, I was greeted by the sight of lush green fields stretching as far as the eye could see. The fields were a testament to the hard work of the farmers, who toiled day in and day out to cultivate crops that sustain their livelihoods. It was fascinating to witness the traditional farming techniques being employed, with farmers tilling the land and sowing seeds with meticulous precision.

 

One of the highlights of my visit was interacting with the villagers themselves. The people of Punjab are known for their warm hospitality and their ability to make visitors feel like part of the family. From the moment I stepped foot in the village, I was welcomed with open arms. The villagers shared stories of their lives, their joys, and their challenges, providing me with a deeper understanding of their way of life.

As Pakistani children, we grew up hearing captivating stories about places like Disneyland and Mickey Mouse Park, but unfortunately, not all of us have had the opportunity to venture beyond our borders. However, the increasing interest in theme parks has caught the attention of investors and business tycoons, leading to a gradual growth of the ecosystem. Starting from the picturesque ranges of Murree, we now witness the presence of theme parks in major cities such as Karachi, Lahore, and many others across Pakistan. It promises to offer a wide range of entertainment for people of all ages, including a world-class cinema house, the longest water slides in Pakistan, and some mind-boggling roller coasters. Situated in Bahria Town, Karachi, mark your calendars because something extraordinary is coming your way!

 

Sindbad Adventure Park:

For those who grew up in the 80s and onwards and have either been Karachiites or visited Karachi, Sindbad Adventure Park holds a special place in their hearts as a cherished childhood memory. As one of Karachi's oldest theme parks, it exudes nostalgia for everyone who has grown up with it. With a collection of safe and adventurous rides, this park has been providing family entertainment for years and continues to attract kids on a daily basis. Musa Ka Masalla: Conquering the Enigmatic Peak

Hidden amidst the majestic Himalayas, Musa Ka Masalla peak stands tall at an impressive height of approximately 4,100 meters (13,500 feet). Situated at the convergence of Siran and Kaghan Valleys in Mansehra District, this peak holds a fascinating legend and beckons adventure seekers from far and wide.

 

Legend has it that a shepherd named Musa used to worship on this very hill, which earned it the name Musa Ka Masalla, meaning "Moses' mat" in English. The locals regard Musa as a saint, and atop the peak, you will find a shrine dedicated to this revered shepherd.

 

During the summer season, there are three main routes to reach the summit, each requiring several hours of challenging trekking. These routes include Balakot to Nadi and Kund Bangla, Paras to Sharran Forest, and Shinkiari to Mandagucha. Of these, the Shinkiari to Manda Gucha route is considered the easiest and most commonly taken.

 

Despite being located near the foothills of the Himalayas, Musa Ka Masalla peak possesses a commanding presence that can be seen from hundreds of kilometers away. The summit remains covered in ice throughout the year, so it's advisable to carry a fleece jacket even during the peak of summer.

 

Over the next 48 hours, you will embark on an arduous journey, ascending to the summit of Musa Ka Masalla peak. To conserve your energy for the challenging climb, jeeps will transport you a few kilometers from Manda Gucha to the trekking stop.

 

From Manda Gucha, it takes approximately four hours to hike to Dhor Meadow, where you will come across a distinctive wooden bridge. Two trails connect Dhor to Khori, and it is recommended to choose the route that crosses the wooden bridge, as it offers a reasonable ascent to the base campsite for Khori. After another four hours of trekking, you will reach Khori campground (2800 m) just before sunset, passing by Jabbar meadows along the way.

 

Avoid the temptation to take a direct ascent towards Khori, as it will strain your muscles, which you will need for the final push to the summit the following day. Conserve your energy as much as possible. Once you reach Khori, heed the advice of the local porters and seek shelter within Shepard's splinter rock home. This wise choice will protect you from the hailstorms that frequently occur in these high-altitude meadows. Mother Nature can sometimes unleash her lightning strikes, leaving burned-down pine trees as reminders of her power.

 

While nature poses its challenges, there are also potential encounters with wildlife. Brown bears and mountain cats roam the dense forests under the government's watchful eye, occasionally venturing near human settlements in search of food. Additionally, this region is known for its banditry, with outlaws traversing the territory. However, by following the guidance of the local porters, you can ensure your safety throughout the journey.

 

The following day, brace yourself for a demanding ascent to the peak, with two rest stops strategically planned along the way. As long as you carry sufficient supplies of ORS (Oral Rehydration Salts) and Tang, you need not worry about hydration, as pure water is available abundantly throughout the journey.

 

Reaching the summit of Musa Ka Masalla is a remarkable achievement that rewards you with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and the grandeur of the Himalayas. The exhilaration of conquering this enigmatic peak is matched only by the sense of awe and reverence for the beauty and power of nature.

Istanbul - The city of Two Continents

Istanbul is a fascinating destination with a rich cultural heritage. It's a place where history and modernity blend seamlessly, offering a unique experience to its visitors. During my recent visit to Istanbul, I explored some of the city's most iconic landmarks and attractions. Here's a rundown of my trip:

 

Grand Bazaar: My journey began with a visit to the Grand Bazaar, one of the oldest and largest markets in the world. It's a maze of narrow alleys and stalls selling everything from jewelry and textiles to spices and souvenirs. The colorful displays and the bustling atmosphere were truly enchanting.

 

Blue Mosque: Next, I visited the Blue Mosque, a stunning example of Ottoman architecture. The intricate details of the blue tiles that adorn the interior are breathtaking. I spent some time taking in the grandeur and peacefulness of this beautiful mosque.

 

Taksim Square: Taksim Square is the heart of modern Istanbul and a popular meeting place for locals and tourists alike. It's a bustling area with many shops, restaurants, and cafes. I enjoyed a cup of Turkish coffee while people-watching and taking in the lively atmosphere.

 

Istanbul Archaeological Museum: For a glimpse into Istanbul's rich history, I visited the Istanbul Archaeological Museum. The museum houses an impressive collection of artifacts from the Byzantine and Ottoman empires, including the famous Alexander Sarcophagus. It's a must-visit for history buffs.

Hagia Sophia: The highlight of my trip was a visit to the Hagia Sophia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a masterpiece of Byzantine architecture. The interior of the building is breathtaking, with its massive domes, stunning mosaics, and marble columns. It's a true wonder of the world.

Malika e Kohsar, Murree

As a native of Islamabad, I have been visiting Murree since childhood. However, opinions within my family are divided on whether it is overrated or underrated. Located 7500 feet above sea level, Kashmir Point is one of the most scenic points in Murree surrounded by the Kashmir Mountains. For food lovers, there are stalls serving traditional tea, coffee, masala pakoras (fritters), hot fries, and piping hot corn soup. Additionally, nature lovers can rent a horse or pony to explore the streets of Murree.

 

Ayubia

Ayubia, named after President Ayub Khan in 1984, is one of Pakistan's national parks. The mountainous valley lies 8000 feet above sea level and has been the home of monkeys for many years. If you're travelling with kids, this is a must-visit place. Ayubia connects Mall Road Murree with Nathia Galli, and the highway is a modern structure with steep curves, highs, and lows. Stop at any point along the way, enjoy some Bhatta (corn on the cob), and let your kids breathe in the heavenly nature. Remember to wear your seatbelts!

 

Nathia Galli

Another breathtaking sight in Murree, Nathia Galli offers unpolluted nature, beautiful mountain tops, street food joints, and luxurious resorts with single and suite rooms. Located 7900 feet above sea level, it is the highest peak among all the mountain ranges in Murree. Due to its high-altitude geography, it is considered one of the best hiking tracks in the range, offering a perfect path for beginners and pro hikers alike. If you're a newlywed, take your spouse to Nathia Galli and impress her with your hiking skills. All the best!

The Mall Road

The famous Mall Road has been the heart of Murree for years. It has given life to the town and is always overcrowded with people and shops. While not everyone may be a nature lover, everyone can find peace in shopping. This 2-kilometre-long road is heaven for shopping enthusiasts as you can find everything from candies to candles and shoes to crockery.

Growing up in Karachi, I often wondered whether the city had more to offer in terms of entertainment besides its diverse cuisine. However, even though Karachi might not have many conventional entertainment options, there are still a lot of unique things that make the city worth exploring. Having spent most of my youth in Karachi, I have experienced the highs and lows of the city and have compiled a list of must-visit places in Karachi.

 

Mazar-e-Quaid

Although this place may not be considered as an entertainment spot, every Pakistani has a sentimental attachment to it. Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, is a name known to every child and adult. As responsible citizens, we owe it to ourselves to pay a visit and offer a prayer at Quaid's tomb. The beautiful tomb is surrounded by a peaceful garden and walkways for visitors. You will be overwhelmed by the scent of fragrant flowers that are mainly used to shower petals on Quaid's grave. Whenever you visit Karachi next, make sure to pay a tribute to our nation's founder.

 

Clifton Beach

Karachi is a beach city, and one can name many beaches. However, what sets Clifton Beach apart is its tranquility. Karachi's peace is often disrupted by traffic, street crimes, and other such issues, but Clifton Beach offers a truly opposite image of the restless hustle and bustle of the city. You can find peace in the wet sand, silence in the loudest sea waves, and, most importantly, therapeutic relief from anxiety and depression. Watching the sunset over the sea can help you breathe out your anxiety and leave you feeling refreshed for the upcoming week. Just a friendly suggestion, Clifton Beach is a perfect weekend spot.

 

Dreamworld Resort, Hotel & Golf Club

Karachi's largest resort, Dreamworld Resort & Hotel, was established in 1996 and has been one of the most popular destinations in the city since then. This resort has something for everyone, regardless of age. Dreamworld Resort & Hotel boasts a golf course, self-care spas, comfortable rooms for overnight stays, an artificial beach, good food, and, most importantly, peace. The calming and soothing ambiance of Dreamworld Resort & Hotel is the perfect antidote to the stress of Karachi's traffic. You can enjoy a variety of water slides that promise an adrenaline rush. My personal favorite activity at the resort is jet skiing around the artificial beach, where cold water splashes on your face, bringing you joy. Don't miss out on this!

 

Do Darya

Do Darya is a cityside resort with a beach view that offers a variety of cuisines under one roof. Although this might sound clichéd, the restaurants in this belt offer much more than just food. The beautiful architecture of the restaurants is half-submerged in the sea, giving you a nearly underwater experience. If you're a sea person, this place also offers cruise dinner services. All you have to do is select a decent menu, and it will be served to you while the sailor sails the ship off, and you get to enjoy the food with the subtle yet sound breeze of the sea. Don't forget to put on your life jacket!

 

In conclusion, Karachi may not have the conventional entertainment options, but the city's unique attractions make it worth exploring. These must-visit places offer an experience that is unparalleled, and you won't regret taking the time to visit them.

The Gulf Tiger - Dubai

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Dubai, one of the most glamorous and luxurious destinations in the world. My trip was filled with exciting experiences, from exploring iconic landmarks to indulging in delicious cuisine and shopping at some of the world's most famous shopping malls.

Dubai Mall:

My first stop was the Dubai Mall, one of the largest shopping malls in the world. With over 1,200 stores, it's a shopper's paradise! I was amazed by the stunning architecture and the wide range of luxury brands available. I also enjoyed visiting the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, which is located inside the mall. It was a surreal experience walking through the underwater tunnel and getting up close and personal with the marine life.

The Tallest Building in the World:

Next, I visited the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. Standing at a height of 828 meters, the view from the top was breathtaking. The panoramic view of the city was truly stunning, and I felt like I was on top of the world. The observation deck provided an immersive experience with interactive displays and the chance to capture amazing photos of the city.

Most Luxurious Hotel I have Ever Seen:

One of the most iconic and luxurious hotels in Dubai is the Burj Al Arab. With its unique sail-shaped design and stunning interior, it's no surprise that it's considered one of the most expensive hotels in the world. Although I didn't stay here, I had the opportunity to visit and take in the luxurious surroundings.

The Global Village:

Another highlight of my trip was the Global Village, a cultural and entertainment destination. It showcases the diverse cultures of different countries and provides a platform for visitors to experience the world in one place. The food, music, and entertainment were amazing, and I had a great time exploring the different pavilions and learning about different cultures.

Desert Safari:

One of the most exciting parts of my trip was the Desert Safari. I enjoyed a thrilling ride over the sand dunes, followed by a traditional Arabian dinner and entertainment under the stars. It was a surreal experience, and I felt like I was in a different world.

 

A Floral Paradise:

Finally, I visited the Dubai Miracle Garden, a floral paradise with over 45 million flowers. The stunning designs and colors were mesmerizing, and I enjoyed taking in the beauty of the garden.

My trip ended with a visit to the Dubai Frame, an iconic landmark that offers panoramic views of the city. It's a unique structure that features a walkway with a glass floor that allows visitors to see the ground beneath them.

Maldives, renowned as a top honeymoon destination, offers warm weather throughout the year, with January being the coldest month. The best time to visit this paradise is from April to December.
